What’s New In Hive

Photography is the art of light. A photographer’s expertise is often a measurement of his mastery of light. Since natural light poses many limitations to capturing a good photo, the use of artificial lighting has become crucial to enhancing the texture and quality of a photo. A high-performance lighting product is, thus, the key to good photography.

Hive Lighting is a premium lighting products manufacturing company based in the United States. Its Wasp 100-C LED, launched last year, was widely popular among cinematographer and filmmakers. While the C-series is undergoing continued enhancements, Hives is introducing two new additions to its Omni-Color LED product line: Bee 50-C and Hornet 200-C.

These new products retain all the features that made the Wasp 100-C great, from the groundbreaking Omni-Color Technology and Perfect SHOT controls, to their unique form factor. With an adjustable yoke design and a 100mm body diameter, the LEDs fit with hundreds of existing photo accessories from various manufacturers, including ProFoto, Chimera, Elinchrome, and Westcott.

Bee 50-C

The Bee 50-C is Hive’s smallest and most portable Omni-color LED. Weighing just 1.5lbs and measuring 5” (125mm) long and 4” (100mm) in diameter, it uses just 40 watts to produce light output comparable to a 300-watt incandescent. Multiple 1⁄4-20 threaded mounting points allow for easy rigging to cameras, drones, stages, built sets, and practical locations. The 50-C can run off a battery or universal wall power, and is compatible with hundreds of accessories.

Like all Hive LEDs, the Bee 50-C features Hive’s Perfect S.H.O.T.™ control system which allows you to completely adjust the saturation, hue, output, and color temperature to create the perfect lighting for any shot. It can also create millions of dimming and color combinations to customize lighting for any production scenario.

The Bee 50-C uses LED Omni-color technology. By using a combination of secondary and tertiary colored LEDS (Red, Amber, Lime, Cyan and Sapphire), Hive LEDs create a more complete and even spectrum than traditional RGBW. A proprietary algorithm merges the 5 different colors into a brilliant whitebalanced light and millions of saturated color combinations. While traditional color changing LEDs use 3 base colors or 2 “white” LEDs, Hive’s Bee 50-C has far higher color quality and far greater control than Bi-Color or RGB LEDs.

A compact size, low power draw, and competitive pricing make this LED the most versatile and cost-effective color changing light source for travel and location production.

Hornet 200-C

The Hornet 200-C is a 150W Omni-Color LED. Weighing just 2.6lbs and measuring 9” (225mm) long, it is brighter than a 1000W incandescent source. With 2.5X the output of the original Wasp 100-C, this is the brightest single point source color changing LED on the market. The Hornet 200-C features Hive’s Perfect S.H.O.T. system and Omni-color LED technology for complete control over a full spectrum of light, runs off a battery or universal wall power, and is compatible with hundreds of accessories.

Fully compatible with a wide variety of classic video and photo light modifiers, the Hornet 200-C offers a light source that is bright enough for both still and moving image production while taking full advantage of any photographer’s existing equipment.

The Hornet 200-C is not only Hive’s brightest LED, but its expanded LED array allows it to produce the widest color gamut of any Hive light. By using a combination of secondary and tertiary colored LEDs (Red, Amber, Lime, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Sapphire), Hive has created a more complete and even spectrum than traditional RGBW. A proprietary algorithm combines these 7 different colors into a brilliant white-balanced light and millions of saturated color combinations, resulting in the far higher color quality in Hive’s Hornet 200-C.
